MLC Women win at Crown in UMAC

ST. BONIFACIUS - All 10 players on the roster scored as the Martin Luther College women's basketball team won 74-39 at Crown Friday night in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.

The Knights took command of the game with just over six minutes left in the first half, finishing the period on a 21-4 run to take a 39-18 lead into the break.

The run didn't stop when the second half started, as MLC continued to build on its lead. The Knights started the second half with a 21-3 run over the first 8:20 of play, building their lead to 39 points at 60-21 before cruising to the win at the final 35-point margin.

Four players scored in double figures for MLC, led by Hannah Hackbarth with 12 points. Alex Anthon scored 11 points and also finished with seven assists and four rebounds, while Brittney Gossen and Rebecca Engelbrecht each had 10 points. Engelbrecht also led the Knights with eight rebounds off the bench.

MLC (11-13, 9-4 in UMAC) returns to action at 3 p.m. today when it travels to Minnesota-Morris.

Crown Holds Off Knights Down the Stretch

ST. BONFIFACIUS - The MLC men's basketball team lost at Crown 86-76 Friday night in UMAC action.

The Knights trailed by as many as 15 in the first half, but a 13-2 run towards the end of the half helped MLC cut the deficit to six at 39-33 heading into the break.

The Storm led the entire second half, but were never able to pull away with a comfortable lead. Crown's biggest lead in the half 11 points, but the Knights cut the Storm's lead to three on two different occasions, the latest of which came with 4:51 remaining in the game after three Josh Danell free throws.

Kaleb Buch finished as the high scorer for MLC with 18 points, and also added four rebounds and four assists. Galen Holzhueter added 17 points, while Luke Rothe and Josh Danell joined them in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Danell also led the team with nine rebounds.

MLC (4-20, 3-10) plays at 5 p.m. today at Minnesota-Morris.
