BELLE PLAINE - The Lutheran Home Association presented Jonathan Scharlemann of Redwood Falls on Jan. 15 with the 2013 Care of the Soul Leadership Award.

Scharlemann has earned an outstanding reputation as a dedicated professional working with families and individuals to help them plan for the future through Christian estate planning.

Scharlemann has helped hundreds of individuals and families accomplish this goal through his many years of service to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) through his work as a Gift Planning Counselor with the WELS Ministry of Planned Giving from 1988-2002, as the Director of Mission Advancement for The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA) from 2002-2006 and as the Vice President of Mission Advancement for Martin Luther College.

Throughout his years of service, he has also trained and mentored many men and women in this very important field, leaving a legacy of giving far into the future.

The award recognizes men and women who faithfully serve the Lord and provide leadership in the area of special ministries, with an emphasis on creating public awareness about these ministries in congregations and individuals and sharing the Gospel.

Now in its 114th year, TLHA remains steadfast in its commitment to provide for the care of the soul. TLHA serves persons with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities; Alzheimer's disease and dementia; those needing specialized care and rehabilitative therapies and offers independent living options for active seniors.

The not-for-profit Christian ministry is supported by more than 200 Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and Evangelical Lutheran Synod association congregations nationwide. St. John's in Redwood Falls, St. John's in New Ulm, Zion in New Ulm and St. Paul's in New Ulm are members of this association.
