NEW ULM - The New Ulm City Council approved the Conditional Use Permit request by the New Ulm Public Utilities to build a 250,000 gallon water tower in Nehls Park on Tuesday.

The approval was the last step for Public Utilities before it can get bids for the project.

The Council also approved a Conditional Use Permit for The Grand Center for Arts and Culture to establish an apartment and two sleeping rooms in its facility. The rooms will be used to provide housing and accommodations for traveling artists who perform at The Grand.

The Council also approved a Conditional Use Permit for New Ulm Steel and Recycling to build an 8-foot high fence at its property at 218 19th South Street. Businesses classified as junkyards are required to maintain screening from view of its areas from all persons on all properties within 600 feet. The fence will be installed in phases.
