County Board approves tax forfeitures

December 28, 2012
By Josh Moniz - Staff Writer , The Journal

NEW ULM - The Board of Brown County Commissioners on Thursday approved tax forfeiture actions for Minnesota River Valley and Dacotah West subdivisions.

The sale of the properties is a joint effort with the City of New Ulm aimed at recapturing special assessments still due on the properties, which failed to take off due to the advent of the recession. The sale will be published in public notices for several weeks before opening up for meetings with potential buyers on Feb. 11, 2013. The final sale date is set for Feb. 27, 2013.

The profits from the sale will be first dedicated towards paying off the owed special assessments. Any money exceeding that amount will be split up evenly among Brown County, the City and the public schools.

The Board also set Jan. 23, 2013 as the letting date for seal coating projects of 2013. This year's low bid was $528.82 per ton.
