Irene Wiborg, age 94, of Winthrop passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, December 29, 2012, 11 a.m. at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, with Pastor Todd Nelsen officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Madelia.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be Saturday, December 29, from 10-11 a.m. at the Dalin-Hantge Chapel in Winthrop.
Irene Rosemary (Riopelle) Wiborg was born on February 11, 1918, in Crookston, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Edmond and Rebecca (Menard) Riopelle. Her parents died when she was young, so she and her siblings went to live in foster homes. After marrying Clifford Wiborg, she moved to Madelia and later Lafayette, where they raised their family of nine.
Irene helped her husband on the farm. She was also a nanny, a factory worker and was a volunteer care giver.
Irene enjoyed traveling, gardening, flowers, sewing, making quilts and rugs, driving, was a good teacher, very independent and focused, and had a soft touch with her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Catherine Rengstorf and husband, Richard of Lake Elmo, MN, Kristi Edwards and husband, Tom of San Augustine, TX, Darcy Weber and husband, Dale of Mission Viejo, CA; sons, James Wiborg and wife, Cheryl of Richland, WA, Lance Wiborg and special friend, Barb of Winthrop, MN, Bryce Wiborg and wife, Carol of New Ulm, MN; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Sahm of Escondido, CA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, Clifford Wiborg; second husband, Kurt Wellnitz; son, Kevin Wiborg; daughters, Marie Witt and Lenore Hermann; Grandson, Mark Rengstorf; Sisters, Henriette Mickelson and Esther Wallace; and brother, Armand Riopelle.
