SLEEPY EYE - The first ever highway construction industry awards recognizing superior commitment to quality and excellence in the grading and base discipline were announced at the recent AGC/MnDOT Transportation Construction and Grading Innovations Technology Forum.
Mathiowetz Construction Company, Inc. of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, was honored in the State Highway Grading category for its work on TH 14, just west of I-35 to the Waseca County line near Owatonna and for its related work on I-35 mainline roadway (S.P. 3401-34).
Project recipients from Mathiowetz were Dave Domm, Randy Shoen and Kristian Botten. MnDOT award recipients were resident engineer Jim Roberts and project engineers, Chad Casey and Dan Kopischke.
The project involved tight completion times, use of CPM scheduling and machine control GPS technologies, superior handling of erosion control requirements, coordination with various administrative agencies, excellent management of density and gradation requirements, and management of complex staging plans for traffic management on the I-35 mainline and the TH14/I-35 Interchange.
