NEW ULM - Three well-known musicians who grew up in New Ulm will return home Saturday for a concert at the New Ulm Event Center.

They are Brenda Zitzman, a Nashville country musician who has been touring the country for 10 years; Jason Hoffman, a Nashville musician; and Jay Kalk, who has lived in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Honolulu before settling recently in Minneapolis.

Hoffman organized the concert. He played an acoustic concert with a friend last Thanksgiving while visiting home. More than 100 attended the event, and its success impressed him. He said Kalk attended the concert and suggested doing another local concert for Christmas. Zitzman was the last person brought in on the concert. When Hoffman discovered she already planned to travel home for Christmas, the concert became reality.

In addition to the three performers, Zitzman's brother and Hoffman's friend from the Thanksgiving concert will participate in Saturday's concert.

The music set will be an eclectic mix of country and rock 'n' roll music. The three returning performers chose the songs based on selections that were important or influential to them. Between songs, they will speak about the significance of their selections or recount tales of the road from their musical tours. A few Christmas songs will be mixed in for the holiday season.

Zitzman said the concert will be a special, unique event for all three of the musicians.

"I rarely get to make it home to begin with. To get a chance to perform music in front of my friends and family is really special," said Zitzman.

Zitzman will perform an additional concert on Friday at the Fairfax Community Home and Countryview Estates at 4 p.m. She also has a series of video performances that can be viewed at

The concert in New Ulm on Saturday will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Each performer will take turns while being backed up by the other performers. The event is free to the public.
