NEW ULM - After shrugging off a few joking questions about whether he was the Chosen One or whether he had any super powers, Jayden Spence said he was looking forward to celebrating one of the most unique birthday dates imaginable - he will turn 12 years old today on 12-12-12 at noon, which, of course, is 12 p.m.
Although there is no definitive source for tracking how many children share Jayden's birthday, there are sure to be celebrations for them. His birthday also marks the last time a triple repetition number can occur in the 21st century.
Jayden said turning 12 was exciting, though he downplayed it somewhat because he is getting a lot of attention.
New Ulm resident Jayden Spence will turn 12 on 12-12-12 at noon today. Because his birthday is on a school day, he celebrated last weekend. The hollow milk chocolate ball on his cake contained 12 $1 bills and 12 $2 bills.
His dad Joe said he has been looking forward to celebrating the date for years, while his mom Jill said she only realized the numbers a month ago.
Because Jayden's birthday fell on a school night, his official birthday party took place last weekend. His birthday cake sported a hollow milk chocolate ball, which contained 12 $1 bills and 12 $2 bills. Additional 12-12-12 themed events are planned today, including his friends surprising him with gift bags filled with 12 of an item of their choosing. There will also be an event at his school, which still has the details under wraps.
Jayden's parents joked he was getting spoiled this year due to the 12-12-12 phenomenon.
"This is something special. [Jayden] is very lucky he gets to have something this unique for his birthday," said Joe.
