NEW ULM - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team had problems containing Northwestern (Iowa) in both halves and lost 102-57 on Saturday afternoon.

With Northwestern leading by a score of 12-6, the Red Raiders used a 24-1 run to push the lead 36-7 and put the Knights in a big hole.

The Knights managed just five field goals in the first 20 minutes, while committing 14 turnovers. The halftime score saw Northwestern ahead by a score of 50-15.

MLC played much better offensively in the second half by totaling 42 points. Hannah Hackbarth scored 15 points in the second half, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Brittney Gossen scored 10 points in the half.

However, Northwestern showed little flaws on offense and shot 67 percent in the second half on its way to eclipsing the century mark.

Hackbarth finished with 23 points and six rebounds for the Knights, while Gossen contributed 12 points. Hannah Rothe led the Knights with seven rebounds.

Northwestern had six players finish with double-digit point totals and had another player with nine points, while shooting a ridiculous 60 percent for the game.

MLC falls to 1-7 overall and will look to get back on track as it heads to Iowa to take on Dordt College on Monday.
