PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Hutchinson runs past New Ulm in girls action

Hutchinson 43, New Ulm 14

HUTCHINSON - New Ulm went to Hutchinson and came out with a loss Tuesday night in nonconference girls basketball action.

Hutchinson was paced by Taylor Jurgunson's 16 points on the night.

New Ulm's leading scorer was Taylor Bolduan, who had five points.

New Ulm (0-3) will start South Central Conference play on Friday night when it travels to St. Peter.

St. Mary's 67, BLHS 52

SLEEPY EYE - Sleepy Eye St. Mary's defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Tuesday night in Tomahawk Conference girls basketball action.

Jessica Schmitz led the Knights with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Maddy Helget scored 14 points and Kenzie Schutz had 11 points.

The Mustangs were led by Michelle Melsha with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

St. Mary's (3-2, 1-0) travels to Springfield to play the Tigers Friday night. BLHS (0-2, 0-1) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran Friday night.

Sleepy Eye 42

SLEEPY EYE - Springfield opened up Tomahawk Conference play with a win over Sleepy Eye on Tuesday night.

Kasey Kretsch not only led Springfield with nine points, she also found her teammates as she added nine assists on the night.

Another top contributor for Springfield was Tiffany Schwanke, who added eight points to go along with her six rebounds.

Sleepy Eye was led by Josie Schieffert's 10 points and seven rebounds to go along with her four blocks.

Springfield (2-1, 1-0) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary's on Friday night. Sleepy Eye (0-3, 0-1) will travel to Redwood Valley on Thursday night.
