FOREST CITY, Iowa -The Martin Luther College women's basketball team was unable to slow down a hot-shooting Waldorf team in the second half in a 69-62 loss Monday night.

MLC got the better of a defensive struggle in the first half, leading 26-25 at the break after holding the Warriors to 32.3 percent shooting. Brittney Gossen led MLC with eight points through the first 20 minutes.

Alex Anthon helped the Knights stay in the game, scoring 17 points in the second half alone on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, but it wasn't enough to take down the Warriors down the stretch.

Anthon led four MLC players in double figures with a game-high 22 points. Rebecca Engelbrecht finished with her first career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds. Hannah Hackbarth and Gossen finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

MLC (1-5) hosts Buena Vista at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Men Lose at Waldorf 79-58

FOREST CITY, Iowa - The MLC men's basketball team lost at Waldorf by the score of 79-58 Monday night.

The Knights started strong in a back-and-forth first half, and held a one-point lead at 25-24 with just over six minutes to play before the break. The Warriors closed the half strong, however, outscoring MLC 18-6 in the final 6:02 to take a 42-31 halftime lead.

MLC was able to cut the deficit into single digits several times early in the half on baskets by Luke Rothe and Galen Holzhueter, but was never able to get closer than nine as the Warriors built their lead over 20 points on the way to the win.

Holzhueter finished as the high-scorer for MLC with 14 points, while Justin Eternick added 13 points. Holzhueter also led the team with seven rebounds, and tied for the team lead with three assists.

MLC (0-5) returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Bethel.
