WINTHROP - The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) School Board accepted the resignation of board member Tom Van Hon on Monday.
Van Hon, who resigned effective Nov. 30, 2012, will not be able to finish his term because he has been appointed a district court judge in Montevideo.
"Tom has been on the GFW board since 1992. He has helped shape the direction of our district for more than 20 years," Superintendent Jeff Bertrang wrote in his board report. "My congratulations to Tom with his bench appointment and for dedicating so many years to GFW schools."
In other action, Bertrang reported that the district's legal team is completing depositions of the architect and engineer responsible for the Gibbon school boilers. Replacement costs are being prepared.
The board approved:
Wade Werner, Paul Froemming and Jeff Seehafer as site tech support staff during Ron Swanberg's absence. Activities will still be coordinated through him while he works half days remotely during the winter. Each staff member is allowed up to 40 hours at $24 per hour, as was done last year.
An anonymous donations of $1,000 and a $530 donation from the Fairfax Class of 1977 to be split between elementary and middle school SMART-BOARDS.
