New Ulm Area Catholic Schools present:

The Sound of Plaid

The story behind the performance includes issues that remain today.

In 1964, the Pleasantdale High School Glee Club, also known as The Sound of Plaid, was on their way to their first big concert to raise money to save their music program due to funding cutbacks.

On their way, their bus is hit broadside by another bus and all are taken from this world. They are allowed one trip back to present the show they never got the chance to perform.

The musical is funny, energetic, and highly entertaining, and filled with songs from the '40's, '50's, and early '60's. Songs featured include "Moments to Remember," "Sixteen Tons," "Chain Gang," "Catch a Falling Star," and many others.

"It's a challenging performance with all the music and dancing," said Director Anita Shikoski. "Gary Sassenberg, our choreographer, really helped a lot."

Shikoski called the play "very family friendly with lots of audience participation."
