NEW ULM - A group of Paraguayan bankers visited New Ulm Tuesday, to confer with colleagues from Southpoint Federal Credit Union.

The delegation is from Cencopan, an organization of credit unions in Paraguay, explained Dick Nesvold, President/CEO of Southpoint.

The Paraguayan bankers are studying ways to enhance the delivery of services to members and how to build confidence in the financial industry, among other things.

The program, sponsored by the state trade association and started about 10 years ago, seeks to help build credit unions in the developing world.

Beside colleagues in New Ulm, the delegation is also visiting with other credit unions in the state, politicians and regulatory authorities, seeking to learn from best practices in this state.

The visit is timed to coincide with the United Nations' International Year of Cooperatives, added Patti Gohl, Vice-President of Operations for Southpoint.
