NEW ULM - The U.S. Army Field Band, the Jazz Ambassadors, chose New Ulm as a tour stop to perform and stay for a day on a busy two-month cross country tour.

"I was contacted last March by the band asking if we would sponsor them here this year," said New Ulm attorney and musician Jeff Braegelmann, who coordinated the tour stop. "They have only two days off during a two-month tour. One of their off days will be spent in New Ulm, taking in some local hospitality."

Tuesday night's concert at Martin Luther College will be the band's fourth performance in New Ulm since March 2005. The 18-piece band plus one vocalist will perform jazz, swing, big band and patriotic music.

The band has appeared with the Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore symphony orchestras as well as the National Symphony Orchestra. It has performed in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Japan, India and across Europe.

Other tour stops include school assemblies, educational outreach programs, festivals, and radio and television appearances.

"They're really a superb band," Braegelmann said. "It's really a unique opportunity to hear a band of that quality live in New Ulm. I'm hoping people take advantage of it. They tell me New Ulm is a popular stop with them, mostly due to the great response they have here. Some of the band members were the same people that performed here in 2005."

Braegelmann said Brown County veterans and their spouses may reserve transportation to and from the concert by calling the Brown County Veterans Services Office at 233-6636.

Three Minnesota Valley Lutheran musicians will sit in with the band during one concert tune.
