GAYLORD - Merlin Stolt, age 80, of Gaylord passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Golden Hearts in Arlington.

Funeral Service will be Monday, October 22, 2012, 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with Reverend Fredric Hinz officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military Honors by the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Post #433.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 21, 2012, 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Merlin Stolt

Merlin Stolt was born on September 12, 1932, in Courtland Township, Nicollet County, MN. He was the son of William and Hannah (Hulke) Stolt. Merlin was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland Township, and also attended parochial school there.

Merlin entered active military service on December 16, 1953, and served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged on December 15, 1955.

On May 14, 1955, Merlin was united in marriage to Dorothy Freitag at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet. They lived in Lompoc, California, while Merlin was in the service. After his discharge, they moved to Mankato where he attended Mankato Commercial College and then worked for Swartout Construction Company in Kasota for many years as an Accountant and Heavy Equipment Operator. In 1959, Merlin and Dorothy purchased a farm south of Gaylord. They were blessed with two children, Todd and Tammy. He continued farming and also worked for Swartout Construction and later as a bus driver for Sibley East. Merlin and Dorothy shared 57 years of marriage.

Merlin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, where he held several offices. He also served as Sibley Township Board Treasurer.

In 1994, Merlin and Dorothy moved to Gaylord. He continued helping on the farm and worked part-time for Egesdal Funeral Home.

Merlin enjoyed the farm, traveling and his family; especially the grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.

Merlin is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stolt of Gaylord, MN; son, Todd Stolt and his wife, Rhonda of Gaylord, MN; daughter, Tammy Hayda and her husband, Alan of Monticello, MN; grandchildren, Apryl Deno and her husband, Kevin, Brandon and Tyler Stolt, Jessica, Nicole and Chad Hayda; great-grandchild. Hunter Deno; sister, Velora Studtman; brothers-in-law, Harley Wills, Sonny Freitag and his wife, Sharon; mother-in-law, Leona Freitag; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters, two sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; and father-in-law.
