John “Jack” Vander Louw

GAYLORD - John "Jack" Vander Louw, age 90, of Gaylord, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm, after suffering from a stroke.

Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, Lake Prairie Township, Nicollet County, with Pastor Joyce Tollefson Capp officiating. Interment will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery, Lake Crystal.

Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, 4 P.M.-7 P.M. at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, Lake Prairie Township, Nicollet County. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

John Vander Louw was born on Jan. 20, 1922, in Butternut Valley Township, Blue Earth County. He was the son of George and Wilhelmina (Blanken) Vander Louw. John was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at the Cambria Presbyterian Church in Cambria. He received his education at country school.

John was united in marriage to Mildred Glaubitz on June 16, 1942, in Lake Crystal. The couple farmed in the Cambria area until 1959, when they moved to a farm near Gaylord, where John resided until August of 2010, when he made the Good Samaritan Assisted Living in Lafayette his home. He farmed all of his life and worked at Nesvig Equipment and Poquette Chevrolet in Gaylord. John and Mildred were blessed with two sons. They shared 64 years of marriage before Mildred passed away on Jan. 30, 2007.

John was a member of Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland, where he served on the church board for many years.

John and Mildred took in foster children for several years. They enjoyed fishing, playing cards and traveling with friends. John especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.

John is survived by his two sons, John Vander Louw and his wife, Lyndis of Woodbury, and Larry Vander Louw and his friend, Connie Hopp of New Ulm; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Anderson and her husband, Marc of Moorhead, Julie Vander Louw of Hudson, Wis., Steven Vander Louw and his wife, Melissa of Shanghai, China, Nita Lewis of Haltom City, TX, Aimee Vander Louw of Phoenix, Ariz., Dan Vander Louw of New Ulm, Larry Vander Louw, Jr. of New Ulm, Darcy Frober and her husband, Dave of Apple Valley, and Dana Jorgenson of New Ulm; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Jenny (Babe) Hendrycks and her husband, Jerry of Mankato; good friend, Gary Kollman of Nicollet; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, George and Wilhelmina Vander Louw; wife, Mildred Vander Louw; a brother and two bisters in infancy in Holland, Hendrika, Janna and Reinier Vander Louw; other siblings, Gertrude (Erick) Draeger, Hendrika Vander Louw, Reinier Vander Louw, Cornelis (Alice) Vander Louw, Henry (Vivian) Vander Louw, and Nellie Jones; great-grandson, Cody Vander Louw in 2002.
