On September 7, 1957 Gerald married Jacqualine Arndt at Redeemer Lutheran, New Ulm and to this union 3 children were born. Jerry and his family lived on South Valley for many years until moving to rural Hanska in 1977 where they remained until returning to New Ulm in recent years. Jerry was employed at Kraft Foods, various transport companies and construction in the New Ulm area. The family also raised Vizsla hunting dogs.

Gerald began raising horses while living on Valley Street and would go on to raise, train and show Belgians. In 1966 the family began pulling the Schell's beer wagon. He was an active member of the New Ulm Battery for many years, sighting in the canon for firing. He shared a special connection with his grandkids; Angie, Matt, Kortney and Austin, and enjoyed the years and time he spent with them. For those of us who knew him well, he was a man of few words, quiet personality and yet had a legendary vocabulary, words that we will always recall.

Gerald is survived by daughters, Terrie (Darwin) Kjelshus, of New Ulm, Vickie (Duane) Piere of Winthrop, and son Jay Schroeder of Hanska; sisters, Renee Schilman of Eagan, Katherine Runck, Susan (Dennis) Jacobs, Janet (Mike) Daluege, and Judy (Jerry) Rieger of New Ulm; brother, Tom (Diane) Konakowitz of Rochester.
