NEW ULM - Oktoberfest continues today and Saturday in New Ulm.

With uncertainty about the weather, many of Saturday's downtown events are moving indoors to the Marktplatz Mall.

At the Holiday Inn, the annual celebration of music, food and drink will start at 6 p.m. today and continue to midnight. Saturday's festivities start at noon and continue until 1 a.m. on Sunday.

The Saturday downtown celebration, which is hosted by the New Ulm Retail Development Corporation, starts with the Oktoberfest & More Kiddie Parade at 10 a.m at the Marktplatz Mall at the intersection of 1st North and Minnesota streets.

Starting at 10:30 a.m., the children and their parents will march through the halls of the mall with a "Pied Piper" leading them. Trikes, wagons and strollers are welcomed for participants. Awards will be given for four categories: Best German-style costume, Best Animal costume, Best on Wheels costume and Best Kid & Parent Get-Up.

Other events at the mall will begin at 11 a.m. The activities include Citizens Bank Saving Force characters with popcorn, NUACT Hansel and Gretel performances, Grand Center for the Arts art demonstrations and origami, New Ulm Medical Center healthy snack creations, New Ulm Park and Recreation Department family kickboxing demonstrations, Wanda Gag House cat puppets and bookmarks, John Lind House Victorian decoupage tiles, Dr. Seuss story time, Cub Scout glider making and face-painting by the Oakwood United Methodist Church.

Meanwhile the Saturday activities outside the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce building at the corner of Center and Minnesota streets will continue "rain or shine." Music performances will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. An Exotic Animal Zoo will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Finally, Schell's Brewery will offer a new festival on Saturday from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. with live music, beer, food and other activities. Schell's will offer brewery tours every half hour on Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m to 4 p.m.
