To the editor:
The Friends of ISD 88 would like to encourage the community to vote YES in support of this November's school referendum.
Our group formed last fall as a result of a failed referendum. While we have been successful in generating funds for the district by asking for donations and organizing various fundraisers, our group can, in no way, raise the million plus dollars that the school district needs to meet the demands of providing a quality education for today's youth. The intention of the Friends of ISD 88 is to support the district and help minimize the impact of budget cuts, we should not be considered a source of funding for the district.
Volunteer groups play an important role in providing educational opportunities for our youth, however, the issue of properly funding our schools and strengthening our community rests with our entire community.
