Candidates for congress will be featured in a debate tonight in Mankato, and candidates for the Minnesota Legislature District 16 will be featured in forum tonight in New Ulm.
First Congressional District candidates Republican Allen Quist and DFL incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Walz will participate in a debate at Minnesota State University-Mankato. It is hosted by Debate Minnesota with former MPR host Gary Eichten moderating. The event, which starts at 7 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium of the student union, will last 90 minutes. Veterans and energy policy are the focus topics.
The New Ulm League of Women Voters will host a forum for candidates for Senate District 16 and House District 16B at 7 p.m. at the New Ulm City Hall.
For District 16, incumbent Sen. Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) will face off against former Wabasso School District Superintendent Ted Suss, who served two-terms in the Minnesota Legislature in the 1970s.
For District 16B, it will be a three-way debate among incumbent Republican Rep. Paul Torkelson, DFL candidate James Kanne and no party candidate Jerry "Pike" Pagel.
The forum will be broadcast on local channel nuCAT and KNUJ radio.
