ST. LOUIS PARK - The River Valley Bullheads 50-over baseball team split a doubleheader against the TC Twins on Sunday.

The Bullheads bunched some timely hits in Game 1. They scored three runs in the third inning and four in the fifth to gain a 7-3 victory for Keith Bense, who went the distance on the mound.

Bullhead hitters connected for 10 hits in the contest, including two each from Bruce Jacobs, Tom Bruess and Brian Donahue.

Former Iowa State University pitcher Bill Varner shut out the Bullheads in Game 2 by a score of 4-0. Donahue was the losing pitcher and his teammates could muster only three hits off of Varner.

The Bullheads are scheduled to play back-to-back doubleheaders this weekend in St. Peter. They host Crosstown Traffic in a 5 p.m. start on Saturday evening, then the Bloomington Goats at 1 p.m. Sunday.
