BLUE EARTH - The Minnesota Valley Lutheran volleyball team compiled a 3-2-1 record at the Blue Earth Invitational on Saturday, which was good enough for a fourth-place finish.
The Chargers opened with a loss to Blue Earth Area (25-17, 25-23), but then split with New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (27-25, 14-25) and won against Martin County West (25-19, 26-24).
Southwest Minnesota Christian handed MVL its second defeat (25-16, 25-11) before the Chargers ended their campaign with a pair of victories, defeating Albert Lea (25-19, 26-24) and United South Central (25-16, 25-23).
Leading MVL at the tournament were Martha Johnston (108 set assists, 19 digs), Sarah Burk (44 kills, six blocks, seven assists), Carlie Maasz (33 kills, 31 digs) and Allison Collum (38 digs).
Also providing strong contributions for the Chargers were Rachel Olsen (16 kills), Rylee Weisensel (16 kills, five blocks), Mariah Stein (25 digs), Rebekka Olsen (11 kills) and Alexa Alfred (nine kills).
MVL will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary's Tuesday in its Dig Pink game.
