NEW ULM - The New Ulm Public Utilities Commission accepted a grant Tuesday to replace the lighting at New Ulm Wastewater Treatment Plant with energy-saving LED lights.
The $5,000 grant came from the Heartland Consumer Power District as part of its initiative to help customer cities save money. The total project is estimated at $10,000, with the cost saving of the LED lights anticipated to pay back the remaining cost in less than five years.
The PUC also authorized staff to prepare plans and set a bid date for the Minnesota River Bank Stabilization Project. The project is aimed at ending continual erosion at the 69kV transmission line crossing from the Ridgley Substation at 20th North Street and Water Street. Current erosion has created some exposure of the line anchors and will eventually endanger the poles. The project is anticipated to cost $92,560. The project will be put out for bids on Jan., 27, 2013.
