NEW ULM - Tamara Furth of the Friends of ISD 88 said the group was pleased with the turnout of more than 250 people Saturday at the Eagles 5000 5k run/walk and 1k kids fun run at New Ulm High School.
"It was a really good turnout. Expenses are still coming in, but we hope to raise several thousand dollars," said Furth. "We felt it was a good success. We'll probably do it again."
Furth said the Friends group wanted to do a fall fund-raiser to tie-in with Homecoming week and decided to host a run/walk and fun run since a number of group members are runners.
"We wanted our event to focus on the school for all children to participate," Furth added. "We wanted to encourage students and first-time runners to take part in a race in a flat part of town...We were happy with how many students, staff and families participated."
She said students that didn't run helped direct runners and control traffic on the race route.
