Springfield falls to Wabasso in SMC action

WABASSO - Springfield took its first loss Friday night in a Southern Minnesota Conference football game against Wabasso.

Wabasso's Blake Altermatt had 27 carries for 121 yards. Tanner Bock had one touchdown and ran the ball eight times for 108 yards.

Springfield's Matt Zeug led the Tigers with 12 tackles and two and a half sacks. Dalton Taylor finished with 10 tackles and one sack.

Offensively for the Tigers, Christopher Kretsch had six carries for 69 yards. Jacob Menage had eight carries for 66 yards and passed for a total of 130 yards with 12 completions on the night.

Wabasso (2-2 overall, 2-1 in conference) will travel to New Ulm Cathedral Friday. Springfield (3-1) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.

Nicollet 28, Cleveland 14

CLEVELAND - The Nicollet Raiders defeated Cleveland in a Southern Confederacy Conference- East football game Friday.

Nicollet was led by Evan Guffey with five receptions for 192 yards and he threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jay Hendricks. Guffey had 21 tackles on the night.

Hendricks added 14 tackles. Dalton Elliot threw for a total of 217 yards. Tanner Elliot added 21 tackles and two touchdowns. Matt Christenson led the Raiders defensively with 25 tackles and he had an interception.

Nicollet (4-0 overall, 3-0 in conference) will host Randolph Friday.

St. Mary's 50, BLHS 28

HECTOR-Sleepy Eye St. Mary's defeated Buffalo-Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Southern Minnesota Conference match-up Friday night.

Jordan Anderson was a part of six touchdowns for the Knights. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 124 yards and had four touchdown passes. He also rushed for 238 yards on eight carries, and rushed for two more touchdowns.

David Surprenant had 11 carries for 107 yards. Mike Huiras had three catches for 50 yards and had two touchdowns and Sean Mathiowetz had two touchdowns receiving.

Defensively, Lucas Heiderscheidt had 12 tackles for St. Mary's.

For the Mustangs, Mason Clark threw for 106 yards and a touchdown and rushed for two touchdowns. Tate Lange rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown and Kyle Kubesh had 56 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Tyler Schulte led the Mustangs on defense with 12 tackles and Clark had 11 tackles.

The Knights are now 4-0, while BLHS dropped to 3-1.

St. Mary's will host Cedar Mountain/Comfrey Friday in its annual Homecoming game. BLHS is at Springfield Friday.

WEM 57, GFW 18

WATERVILLE - Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop had only 187 yards offensively in a Gopher Valley AA Conference loss to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Friday night.

GFW rushed for 73 yards and had 114 passing yards. Dan Timm had 15 tackles and two sacks for GFW. Frank Fairchild had 114 passing yards and rushed for 12 yards. Mitch Kiecker had four receptions for 62 yards. Shawn Jensen added one defensive touchdown on an interception.

GFW (1-3 overall) will host Martin County West Friday.

Blooming Prairie 58,

MVL 28

BLOOMING PRAIRIE - Blooming Prairie downed Minnesota Valley Lutheran in Gopher Valley prep action Friday night.

For MVL, Ryan Grunke rushed for 87 yards and scored two touchdowns. Matthew Tessmer ran for 84 yards and scored one touchdown. Kris Goetzke rushed for 80 yards and scored one touchdown,

MVL (2-3) will host Bethlehem Academy Saturday night in New Ulm.
