Madelia wins Valley match

Madelia 3, Truman 0

MADELIA - The Madelia volleyball team picked up a Valley Conference win as it defeated Truman 25-22, 26-24, 25-21 Thursday.

Sarah Haynes had 15 kills and Haley Reed added 12 kills and 10 digs for Madelia. Madelia also got 20 set assists from Emily Koehler and 16 set assists from Taylor Thomas in the victory. Kayla McCabe led Madelia with 16 digs.

Madelia improves to 5-3 (2-2) and will play at New Ulm Cathedral on Monday.

Belle Plaine 3,

Sibley East 0

GAYLORD - Belle Plaine defeated Sibley East 25-10, 25-17, 25-12 in a Minnesota River Conference volleyball match-up Thursday night.

Jordan Thomes led Sibley East with six kills and Autumn Dose had two service aces. Shelby Voight had nine digs and Karley Lind had seven set assists.

Sibley East (2-6-1, 0-3) hosts a tournament on Saturday.

Sleepy Eye 3, CMC 2

SLEEPY EYE - The Sleepy Eye volleyball team defeated Cedar Mountain/Comfrey by a score of 25-10, 23-25, 16-25, 25-20, 15-11 Thursday.

Sam Krebsbach led the way for Sleepy Eye with 13 kills. Claire Krumbach had eight kills, eight digs, three blocks, and two aces for the Indians and Miranda McMullen led Sleepy Eye with 15 set assists.

Courtney Nelson had 12 kills for the Cougars and Briana Lund had seven kills. Erin Christensen had 16 set assists, while Allison Madsen added 10 set assists. Andrea Ochs added 25 digs and four aces for CMC.

Sleepy Eye improves to 3-8 overall and will travel to Wabasso Tuesday. CMC falls to 1-9 overall and plays at Minnesota Valley Lutheran Tuesday.

Springfield 3, Wabasso 1

WABASSO - Springfield improved to 5-0 in the Tomahawk Conference with a 25-17, 26-24, 17-25, 26-24 victory over Wabasso.

Shelby Schultz had 35 set assists, including her 1,000th career set assist, for Springfield. Springfield also got a big night from Tiffany Schwanke, who had 22 kills and was 15 of 15 serving with a pair of aces. Morgan Hansen pitched in for Springfield with 18 kills and 18 digs, and Kasey Kretsch added 31 digs for Springfield.

Springfield improves to 8-1 (5-0) and will play in the Sibley East tournament on Saturday. Wabasso falls to 8-3 (2-2) and will host Westbrook-Walnut Grove Monday.

BLHS 3, SESM 1

SLEEPY EYE - Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary's 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match-up Thursday night.

Becca Schmitz had eight kills and two aces for the Knights and Jessica Schmitz had seven kills and two blocks.

Lexi Fischer had eight kills and Bethany Berkner had 21 set assists and went 19-for-19 serving with four aces. Lexi Weiss had 24 digs.

For BLHS, Hannah VanderVoort had eight digs and six kills and Karly Sifferath had eight set assists. Maddie Ludowese had eight digs.

St. Mary's (6-5-1, 2-2) will travel to Springfield to face the Tigers Tuesday and BLHS will play at BOLD Monday.
