Highway 14 detour to continue into October

September 18, 2012
The Journal

MANKATO, Minn. Motorists on Highway 14 west of New Ulm can expect the short detour to be in effect until mid-October due to delays in lighting supplies.

The detour began on July 16 for the construction of a roundabout at Highway 14 and Palmer Avenue - new Menards entrance -and was initially planned to be complete in August. The detour includes Brown County Road 12 and Brown County Road 29.

The highway department has been installing roundabouts at new or remodeled intersections to lower the incidence of crashes. Roundabouts can handle high levels of traffic with less delay than most stop signs or signals. The tight curves slow traffic so entering and exiting is easier and more efficient.
