EDEN PRAIRIE - After a thrilling extra-inning home win over Shakopee on Thursday, the River Valley Bullhead 50s baseball team traveled to the Twin Cities for a split doubleheader on Sunday.
The Bullheads began the day with a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Saints at Round Lake Stadium in Eden Prairie, in which Tom Lacina pitched a two-hit complete game gem.
Lacina had a no-hitter through five innings before the Saints scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth. Arnie Degenhardt and Bruce Jacobs led the nine-hit offense for River Valley, each with RBI doubles.
After a five-hour wait between games the Bullheads dropped their nightcap against the Bloomington Goats by the score of 14-6.
River Valley plated three runs in the first for what appeared to be a comfortable lead, only to have the Goats answer with four runs in their half of the inning. It went steadily downhill from there for the Bullheads as Bloomington scored at least once in each inning thereafter.
The Bullheads (4-3) next host a couple of conference newcomers in St. Peter. The Bullheads host the Apple Valley Albatross at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Sunday against the Twin City Angels.
