Moose on the loose

September 17, 2012
The Journal

Karen Klenk, of Winthrop, grabbed this picture of a moose Saturday morning, about 5 miles northwest of Winthrop. Klenk said she and her sister, Vickie Mueller, were driving to her garden in the country to pick raspberries about 8 a.m. when her sister spotted the moose in a 200-acre tract of prairie along Sibley County Road 10, in Bismarck Township. They pulled over and Klenk shot some photos with her cell phone camera. Klenk said her son, an appraiser, had been in Bird Island earlier and had heard of a moose in that area. Klenk said the moose moved away from them toward a farmhouse nearby, but was spooked by a barking dog. Others in the area said they had seen it in the prairie area, Klenk said, but she's not sure where it has gone. If anyone does see the moose, they can call The Journal at 507-359-2911.
