LAFAYETTE - Lafayette firefighters got lots of help hauling water Tuesday afternoon at a fire at the Joel and Kelly Hotovec farm 3 1/2 miles west of Lafayette.
"A big pile of tires burned, but thanks to mutual aid from New Ulm, Courtland, Winthrop and Gibbon firefighters, two buildings were saved," said Lafayette Fire Chief Scott Van Deest. "We dumped a lot of water. Lafayette Excavating brought a back hoe out to separate the tires to make sure they were soaked down good."
Van Deest said the cause of the fire remains unknown. Firefighters were called to the scene at 4:30 p.m. and were done with the call about 7 p.m.
