Girl Scouts seeking 100 acts of kindness

Part of Silver Award project for troop

September 4, 2012
The Journal

NEW ULM - Girl Scout Troop 30167 wants your acts of kindness.

Three girls from that troop - Allyson Vorwerk, Mattea Sievert and Hannah Lundstrom - are working on their Silver Award project. They are doing 100 acts of kindness to earn the award.

Any act of kindness will do, from opening a door for someone to giving away spare change, volunteering at the Humane Society or picking up a piece of trash on the way to work.

Cats need kindness, too! Girl Scouts Hannah Lundstrom (left), Mattea Sievert (center) and Allyson Vorwerk spend some time caring for the animals at the Brown County Humane Society as part of their “100 Acts of Kindness” project.

The girls are asking the community to help them collect the 100 acts of kindness.

Anyone who sees or does an act of kindness is asked to share it on the girls' website. No account is needed, and the report can be anonymous. The website is 100-acts-of-kindness.tumblr.com.

The girls picked 100 acts of kindness in honor of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting this year. Juliette Gordon Lowe, founder of the Girl Scouts, thought that if each of her Girl Scouts did a good deed every day it would make the world a better place.

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award on the cadet level that promotes leadership.
