PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Sibley East defeats MVL, New Ulm loses season opener

Sibley East 3, MVL 1

GAYLORD - The Sibley East volleyball team defeated MVL 25-9, 16-25, 25-17, 25-17 in a non-conference matchup on Thursday.

Karley Lind led Sibley East with five aces, Jordan Thomes had 11 kills, Courtney Schwirtz had 19 assists and Shelby Voight added 15 digs.

MVL was led by Rylee Weisensel with four kills and five blocks, Martha Johnston with ten assists and Allison Collum with 30 digs.

Sibley East (1-1) travels to play Le Sueur-Henderson on Thursday, while MVL (0-1) travels to play Sleepy Eye Saint Mary's on Tuesday.

Worthington 3, New Ulm 0

WORTHINGTON - New Ulm lost its season opener to Worthington 25-17, 25-15, 25-21 in non-conference volleyball Thursday night.

Alley Grejtak had 14 kills for the Eagles and Bree Friedman had 15 assists. Katie Forst was 14-of-15 serving with two aces and Sarah Nelson had two blocks.

New Ulm (0-1) will play at Redwood Valley on Tuesday.

RCW 3, BLHS 1

HECTOR - The Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart volleyball team fell to Renville County West by a score of 25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 16-25 on Thursday in non-conference play.

Hannah VanderVoort led BLHS with five aces, while Mikayla Paulson had 11 kills and Ashley Tintes had 14 set assists.

BLHS (1-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday.

Madelia 3, CMC 1

MORGAN - Madelia defeated Cedar Mountain/Comfrey by a score of 25-11, 25-15, 20-25, 26-24 on Thursday evening.

Haley Reed had 12 kills and 18 digs for Madelia. Emily Koehler added 20 assists and Kayla McCave had 21 digs.

CMC was led by six kills from Allison Madsen, three aces by Erin Christensen, and nine digs by Emily Ochs.

Madelia (1-0) will host Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Tuesday, while CMC (1-1) will travel to Wabasso on Tuesday.
