PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Knights, Indians and Rabbits win openers

St. Mary's 3, ML 0

NORTHROP - Sleepy Eye St. Mary's swept Martin Luther 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 in its first game of the season Tuesday night.

Maddy Helget led the Knights with nine kills and nine digs while also adding four assists. Jessica Schmitz had five kills, five assists and four aces. Deonna Brinkman had six kills, five blocks and four aces and Bethany Berkner had seven assists and two ace serves.

The Knights will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sleepy Eye 3, Truman 0

SLEEPY EYE - Sleepy Eye swept Truman 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 in non-conference volleyball Tuesday.

Claire Krumbach led Sleepy Eye with 17 kills and two aces. Karrah Remus had 10 kills and Emily Curtis added six. Miranda McMullen had 18 assists and Sammy Villanueva had 10 digs.

Sleepy Eye (1-0) will play Thursday at home against Martin Luther.

Wabasso 3, RRC 1

JEFFERS - Wabasso defeated Red Rock Central 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-13 on Tuesday.

Kim Frank led Wabasso with 13 assists and Larissa Rohlik added seven. Chelsey Guetter had five kills and Ellen Franta and Desi Kramer each had four kills.

Wabasso (1-0) will host Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Tuesday and RRC will host Springfield on Thursday.

Mankato West 3, Nicollet 0

NICOLLET - Mankato West swept Nicollet 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 in non-conference volleyball Tuesday night.

Katelyn Skrien and Carissa Woller each had six kills for Nicollet. Skrien also had seven assists and Emily Fischer had two blocks.

In a loss against Cedar Mountain/Comfrey on Monday, Emily Skrien led the Raiders with seven kills. Katelyn Skrien had five kills and nine set assists, Courtney Struss had eight digs, Julia Giefer had two aces and Fischer had three blocks.

Nicollet (0-2) will next play on Sept. 10 at Minnesota Valley Lutheran.


HECTOR - Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart rallied from a 2-1 deficit against MACCRAY on Tuesday, but ended up losing the match 12-25, 25-19, 25-17, 19-25, 15-9.

Mikayla Paulson led the Mustangs with 17 kills and was also 14-for-14 serving with one ace. Maddie Ludowese was 24-for-26 serving with five aces and also notched five kills, Ashley Tintes was 19-for-21 serving with two aces and 26 set assists and Becca Ebbers was 25-for-31 in serve receptions with 16 digs. Hannah VanderVoort added 13 digs, five kills and a service ace for BLHS.

Brooklyn Gould led MACCRAY with 11 kills, 14 digs and a 20-for-20 service effort with three aces.

The Mustangs (1-1) will host Renville County West at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
