ALBERT LEA - New Ulm suffered a 5-2 loss against Marshall on Monday, but then rebounded for a 5-2 victory over Albert Lea in a triangular girls' tennis meet.
The Eagles' two wins against Marshall came from Jennifer Martens (3-6, 6-4, 11-9) at No. 2 singles and Maya Sarkar (7-6, 4-6, 10-4) at No. 3 singles. Laura Albrecht also went three sets at the No. 1 singles position, but came up just short by a 6-1, 2-6, 5-10 score.
New Ulm's win against Albert Lea was its first win of the season.
Albrecht won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Martens won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and at No. 3 singles Maya Sarkar lost 7-6, 6-7, 5-10 in a super tiebreaker. Taylor Bolduan played at the No. 4 singles position for the Eagles and came away with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
In doubles, Hannah Jakel and Marissa Johnson came out victorious at No. 1 by a 6-0, 6-2 score. Miriam Jakel and Emma Vranich also won at the No. 2 doubles position 6-3, 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, Matea Seivert and Sicily Trullinger came very close to another win, falling just short in the super tiebreaker 4-6, 6-4, 10-12.
"I am very proud of the team," New Ulm head coach Kevin Maudal said. "They worked hard and didn't give up. They dug deep when they needed to and came away with an impressive win."
New Ulm will play at the Hutchinson Invitational on Thursday.
