NEW ULM - The New Ulm boys soccer team split its two games Friday in an invitational at the Martin Luther College soccer complex.

The Eagles defeated Glencoe-Silver Lake 2-1 in its first game. Broderich Brown scored both goals and Alex King made nine saves for the Eagles.

In the second game, New Ulm's offense slowed down a bit as it fell to Southwest Minnesota Christian 3-1. SMC quick-footed shooters were just too much for King to handle as they swerved in and put it in the back of the net. Ryan Plath scored New?Ulm's only goal of the game on a penalty kick in the first half.

King managed to make eight saves in the loss for New Ulm.

"Our midfield looked good today," New Ulm assistant coach Brandon Dietz said. "We possessed well - fell a little bit there in the second game. I think our conditioning just isn't quite there yet and we lost our legs. It looks very promising."

New Ulm (1-1) will play in the Mankato Loyola Tournament today.
