August 24, 2012
The Journal

MARSHALL - The River Valley girls' tennis team was leading Marshall on Thursday afternoon by a 2-0 score when thunder, lightning, torrential rains and hail put a quick end to things.

The Wildcats had picked up wins at No. 1 doubles, where Emily Johnson and Kalyn Haas defeated Maggie Ray and Maddie Schoephoerster 6-3, 6-3, and at No. 3 doubles, where Alex Chaney and Alyssa Rubey were 6-0, 6-0 winners.

The weather couldn't have come at a worse time for the Wildcats as River Valley held leads at No. 3 singles (Lauren Laffen 6-1, 5-2), No. 2 singles (Becky Roiger 6-2, 3-1), No. 2 doubles (Marlayna Evers/Erika Ries 6-5) and No. 1 singles (Kallie Smith 8-7 in the first set tie-breaker). No make-up date has been set as of yet for the match.

River Valley plays at 4:30 today at New Ulm.
