Sylvia Grossmann Bushore

NEW ULM - Sylvia Grossmann Bushore, formerly of New Ulm and Gibbon passed away peacefully, at the age of 93, on April 6, 2012 in Las Cruces, N.M. She was a resident of Cottonbloom Assisted Living Facility. To sign the guest book or to leave an online condolence for her family go to

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Baumann; husbands, Norbert Grossmann and Gerald Bushore; and siblings, Wilbert Baumann, Shirley Kral, Dorothy Harbitz, and Henry Baumann Jr. She is survived by a son, Kenneth Grossmann and wife Laurie of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren, Kelsey Muellner of Denver, Zach James and wife Jessica of Santa Fe, NM; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Mattingly James; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Albert and Lorraine Kral, Bernice Baumann, Harley Grossmann, and Jolene Grossmann, all of New Ulm. Sylvia also has numerous nephews and nieces, a couple of who held a special place in her heart.

Sylvia graduated from Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm. She was married to Norbert Grossmann in January, 1939, and the couple moved to St. Paul where she attended cosmetology school. In 1944 they returned to New Ulm, lived there until 1958, and later moved to Gibbon where Norb and Sylvia operated Norb's Bar from 1958-1965. They relocated to the Los Angeles area where Sylvia was the warranty records head for the largest Dodge dealer in Southern California. Norb and Sylvia were avid polka dancers, and attended dances and festivals around the country. Norbert passed away in 1982.

Sylvia was married to Gerald Bushore in 2001. They moved to Peoria, AZ and resided there until the fall of 2011. As they gradually weakened in the past couple of years, Sylvia moved to the Las Cruces area to be near her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Monday, Aug. 27 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in memory of Sylvia Grossmann Bushore to the Mesilla Valley Hospice; 299 E. Montana; Las Cruces, NM 88005.
