NEW ULM - The New Ulm City Council will meet today at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

The Council will consider a motion to authorize the PUC to use Nehls Park as the site of a new water tower.

The proposal has generated significant controversy among residents around the park.

Park and Recreation Department officials and PUC official argue the water tower will have minimal impact on the park, while the location provides cost efficiencies and opens Hermann Heights up to development.

Opponents of the proposal have garnered more than 100 signatures, and they will present their case at the meeting.

The Council will also consider a motion authorizing the future building of a dog park. The long-sought dog park will not have its location set with this motion, but will instead give official support for a future dog park . When the final location of the dog park is determined, it must come before the Council for final approval.

Finally, the Council consider a resolution to restrict parking on the east side of Bridge Street at the entrance of the Kraft building.

A Kraft representative requested a no parking zone for the east side of Bridge Street between the two entrances to Kraft and south to the first fire hydrant. The Kraft said the site line for exiting vehicles would be greatly improved.
