Proud of Ali

August 10, 2012
The Journal

Ali Bernard's return to Olympic competition Thursday was a hard one for Bernard and her fans watching in New Ulm.

Bernard fell 3-0, 3-1 in a match with Sweden's Jenny Fransson in the Women's 72kg freestyle wrestling competition. When Frannson lost her next match, Bernard was out of the competition.

We know Bernard was not happy with her performance, but we know that New Ulm couldn't be any more proud of her hard work and accomplishments.

A career that started out on the wrestling mats in New Ulm has taken Bernard to Beijing and to London, representing our nation and New Ulm in two Olympics. We think she represented both very well.

We know that when she returns home she will receive a hero's welcome.
