Donald "Don" Dummer, age 89, of Franklin, MN, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Sunwood Care Center in Redwood Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 8, at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin, with Father Jeffrey Horejsi officiating. Interment will be in St. Patricks Cemetery, Birch Cooley Township, Renville County, MN. Military Honors by the Fairfax Honor Guard.

Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Donald "Don" F. Dummer was born on June 7, 1923,in Camp Township, Renville County, MN. He was the son of Mike and Florence (Reinhart) Dummer. Don was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. He received his education at St. Andrew's Catholic School and was a 1942 graduate of the Fairfax High School.

Donald entered active military service on May 24, 1944, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was Honorably Discharged on May 18, 1946.

On May 1, 1948, Donald was united in marriage to Valeria Doherty at St. Wenceslaus in New Prague, MN. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Camp Township, southeast of Franklin. Donald and Valeria shared 62 years of marriage before Valeria passed away on January 16, 2011. They were blessed with four children.

Donald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin, where he was a Trustee, on the Parish Council, was a Lector and a Eucharist Minister. He received the Bishop's Medal of Service in 1989. He was also a member of the Catholic Aid Society, the Catholic Foresters and was a member of the Fairfax Honor Guard.

Donald enjoyed woodworking, making picture frames, wine making, deer hunting, bee raising, and bird watching. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.

Donald is survived by his children, Mark (Debra) Dummer of Franklin, MN, Paul (Debra) Dummer of Lesterville, SD, and Julie Nelson of Remsen, IA; 7 grandchildren, Sara (Mark) Cookson, Michael (Lindsay) Dummer, Katie (Steve) Sayler, Amy (Brian) Miller, John Dummer, Kristine (Joe) Mohning, and Keith Nelson and his fianc, Becky Amundson; 7 great-grandchildren, Allison, Matthew and Ashley Dummer, Olivia Sayler, Kinnick, Juliann and Quinnten Mohning; sisters, Lorraine (Jerome) Kienlen of Basking Ridge, NJ, and Diane (Jack) Herdina of Centerville, MN; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Dummer of Fairfax, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Florence Dummer; wife, Valeria Dummer; son, Gary Dummer; and brothers, Partick Dummer and Harley Dummer.
