Horse show date change pleases fans

4-H event held before county fair instead of at end

NEW ULM - A scheduling change for the 4-H Horse Show seemed to please people Saturday at the Brown County Fairgrounds outdoor horse arena.

The horse show was moved up eight days, to the Saturday before the fair. In the past, the show was held on Sunday, the final day of the fair.

"It's much better this way, instead of having it at the same time the tractor pull is going on. We avoided lots of noise and traffic," said John Cselovszki of Sleepy Eye, who had three daughters competing for the Minnesota State Fair lineup.

Another thing people agreed upon was their fondness for horses.

"They keep me sane. They're cheaper than Doctor Phil," said Cambria farmer Dan Helget. "They give me a reason to get up in the morning too."

John Rosenhammer of Sleepy Eye said horses were "God's way for dads to bond with their daughters."
