NEW ULM - Shakopee pounded out 21 hits and scored 14 runs as it topped Dassel 14-1 Sunday to win the Second District VFW title at Johnson Park Sunday afternoon.
Sheldon Miks got the win for Shakopee. He scattered five hits and struck out eight.
Mason Marelic took the loss for Dassel. He was tagged with seven runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Austin Leadstrom, Dom Schlepper, Miks, Henry Henk and Chad Sorenson each had three hits. Miks had four RBI.
Shakopee advances to the State VFW Tournament in Mankato.
Each team scored a run in the third inning. Shakopee plated a run on a Miks' RBI single with Dassel matching that in the bottom of the inning on a bases-loaded walk to Trent Krekelberg.
Shakopee then scored six runs in the fourth inning, including a two-run double from Miks.
Shakopee scored a solo run in the fifth on a Miks' base hit and then added two more in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly. It added four more runs in the top of the seventh on a Chad Sorenson RBI double, a wild pitch and a two-run triple from Taran Bemis.
Shakopee scored 50 runs in the tournament in which it went undefeated.
