NEW ULM - Chris Peters went 4-for-5 and scored three runs as the New Ulm Brewers opened Region 2C playoff with an 8-5 win over Gibbon Friday night at Johnson Park.

Chris Cariveau got the pitching win for the Brewers. He allowed nine hits and fanned eight.

Brock Sieve aided Peters' four-hit night with three hits. Wade French and Zach More each added two hits.

More had three RBI while French drove in two runs.

Jason Berger led Gibbon with three hits.

Game 2 in the best-of-three series will be played at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Gibbon.

The Brewers took a 1-0 lead off of the righthanded Shane Albrecht in the second. Peters collected the first of his four singles with one out. Sieve followed with a base hit to center field before a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position.

More's sacrifice fly scored Peters.

Drew Pfaff's groundball to third baseman Cody Berger was misplayed, allowing Peters to ramble home.

More's line single to right field scored French for a 5-3 lead.

Peters' lead-off single in the seventh and a More double to left field scored Peters all the way from first to up the lead to 6-3.

New Ulm added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Aaron Pfaff walked and came home on a Hoffmann double. Hoffmann scored later on a French base hit.

Gibbon made it interesting in the top of the ninth off of Cariveau.

Jason Berger and Munoz each singled. A Ryan Panning double and a Stadtherr groundout added the final two runs for the Reds.
