ST. CLOUD - The New Ulm 18U softball team won the Class B State Softball Tournament on Sunday.
New Ulm defeated the Minnesota Chaos in the first game 1-0. Carlie Maasz was the winning pitcher, striking out nine. She walked one and gave up two hits. Hallie Kuelbs was 1-for-3 to lead the offense.
In the second game, New Ulm defeated Fergus Falls 3-1. Maddy Helget pitched 4 2/3 innings and struck out three for the win. Maasz pithed the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run. She struck out two.
Hope Capp was 1-for-3 with the game-tying RBI in the sixth inning. Ellie Schneider was 2-for-3 and Charlotte Pfingsten was 2-for-4.
In the championship game, New Ulm defeated Fergus Falls again 5-4.
Maasz was the winning pitcher. She pitched seven innings, striking out 10 and allowing three hits and four runs. She walked three.
Kali Denn was 2-for-2 with a three-run home run and Pfingsten was 1-for-2 with two runs.
New Ulm ends its season at 33-3.
