Imelda “Melda” Havemeier

NEW ULM - Imelda "Melda" Havemeier, 83, of New Ulm, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Timothy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Courtland.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Friday.

Melda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice "Jan" and Tom Anderl of New Ulm; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Audrey Havemeier of Carver; six grandchildren; and by seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Havemeier on January 26, 2008; a grandson, Michael Anderl on December 2, 2006; and by her sisters, Irene Alfred and Dolores Steinhaus.

Imelda Elaine Knapp was born September 18, 1928 in Sleepy Eye to Albert and Ida (Grundmeyer) Knapp. She was united in marriage to Raymond Havemeier on January 11, 1948 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage they worked as hired hands on a farm near Madelia. They then moved to New Ulm where Imelda was employed as a driver for the New Ulm Journal for six years and then at QMC-MCG for 27 years until retiring in 1993. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, puzzles and she especially loved her cats. Imelda was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
