Planning Commission approves Kaolin permit

July 18, 2012
The Journal

NEW ULM - The Brown County Planning Commission recommended approval of the renewal of a three-year conditional use permit Tuesday to continue to allow use of Eden Township property to extract Kaolin clay from the bed of an intermittent watercourse.

Permit conditions include Northern Con-Agg, Riverland Acres, providing a $20,000 performance bond payable to Brown County, to guarantee compliance with the End Use Rehabilitation Plan including no finished slope exceeding 25 percent grade.

Mining operation surface water must be controlled to prevent run-off onto neighboring landowner property. Dust control must be provided on CR 10 and approved by the County Highway Engineer plus any new approaches on CR 10.

The commission approved single lot splits including Anderson's Second Subdivision, Burnstown Township; D&M Properties Southern Minnesota, Hellings Second Addition, Lake Hanska Township; and Krienke Second Subdivision, Home Township.

Brown County commissioners will consider recommendations at 10 a.m. at their July 24 meeting.
