GLENCOE - The New Ulm VFW Gold baseball team swept a doubleheader at Glencoe on Saturday.
Gold won Game 1 by a 3-1 score behind a strong pitching effort by Collin Helget. He threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run on two hits while striking out nine.
Leading the way offensively for Gold was Tyler Dittrich with a double and a run scored and Connor Forbrook with a two-run, game-winning single.
New Ulm won Game 2 by a score of 11-6. Leading the way offensively were Brach Kraus, Jackson Yackley and Dittrich, who all finished with two hits apiece. Yackley and Dittrich added two RBI and Kraus scored two runs.
Wyatt Peterson got the win for Gold in Game 2, with Forbrook and Jarin Spence pitching solid relief. New Ulm Gold (20-5) will see its next action on Thursday in the Southwest Sub-district tournament in St. James. Gold will open its tournament campaign against Wells at 4:30 p.m.
