NEW ULM - Brittany Hoffmann hit home runs in each game of a doubleheader to lead the New Ulm 18s softball team to a sweep of New Ulm Blue on Tuesday.
The 18s won the first game 7-0 and won the second game 12-4 in five innings.
Carlie Maasz (six innings pitched, five hits, nine strikeouts, one walk) earned the win in Game 1. The 18s' offense was led by Hoffmann (two-run home run), Mikyla Weilage (triple, three RBI), Megan Kral (2-for-2) and Ellie Schneider (2-for-3).
Maasz also started in Game 2, but lasted only two innings, allowing four runs. Maddy Helget completed the game in relief, allowing only one hit in three innings and striking out four.
The 18s were paced at the plate in Game 2 by Hoffmann (2-for-3, home run), Kral (2-for-2), Kristi Larson (2-for-3), Katie Forst (2-for-3) and Charlotte Pfingsten (2-for-3).
The New Ulm 18s (19-3) will play a doubleheader against New Ulm Red on Thursday and will then head to Buffalo to play in state qualifiers on Saturday and Sunday.
