MANKATO - Motorists on Highway 14 west of New Ulm can expect a short detour beginning Monday, July 16 as crews construct a roundabout at Highway 14 and Palmer Avenue, which will be the new Menards entrance.
The detour for the construction of the single-lane roundabout includes Brown County Road 12 and Brown County Road 29. Construction is expected to be complete in mid-August.
The city of New Ulm is the lead on the project after receiving a permit from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Construction on the roundabout on Highway 14 near the building site for the New Ulm Menards store is set to begin Monday, July 16, and is expected to be completed in mid-August.
MnDOT has been installing roundabouts at new or remodeled intersections to lower the incidence of crashes. Roundabouts can handle high levels of traffic with less delay than most stop signs or signals. The tight curves slow traffic so entering and exiting is easier and more efficient.
Menards recently announced that the New Ulm store will open in the early months of winter 2012-13, which could be late December through March 2013.
Construction on the site, which is west of Wal-Mart, began in May.
